Infrastructure Comparison
Infrastructure Type
Proprietary managed cloud
WP Engine operates its own infrastructure — not a white-label of AWS, GCP, or Azure. This means tighter vertical integration between the WordPress platform and underlying hardware.
CDN Network
Cloudflare global CDN
Included on all plans. Global Edge Security add-on layers WAF, advanced bot management, and DDoS mitigation at the edge.
Environment Isolation
Shared (Essential/Growth/Scale) · Isolated (Core/Enterprise)
Entry plans share underlying resources. Core and Enterprise plans move to isolated environments with dedicated resources and stronger performance guarantees.
Uptime SLA
99.99% — Core and Enterprise only
Essential, Growth, and Scale plans do not include a contractual uptime SLA. The SLA applies when you're on an isolated environment.
PHP & WordPress
Automatic managed updates
PHP and WordPress core updates are applied automatically with compatibility testing. Reduces the operational burden on site owners.
Security Stack
Layer 3+4 DDoS, malware scanning, automatic patches
PCI-compliant infrastructure. Network-level DDoS on all plans. Smart Plugin Manager adds application-layer protection via automated plugin update testing.
Infrastructure Type
Google Cloud Platform (GCP) — C2 and C3D compute
Built entirely on GCP with access to 30 global data center regions. Users choose their primary region at site setup. GCP's compute-optimized instances are matched to WordPress workloads.
CDN Network
Cloudflare Enterprise CDN (all plans)
All plans include Cloudflare Enterprise — the same tier used by large enterprises. Bandwidth limits are documented per plan. No CDN add-on required.
Environment Isolation
Container-based isolation on all plans
Each WordPress site runs in its own isolated container on GCP, preventing resource contention from neighboring sites — even on entry plans.
Uptime SLA
99.99% — all plans including entry ($35/mo)
The SLA applies from the lowest plan tier. Uptime is monitored externally every 3 minutes. Downtime credits are available per the SLA terms.
APM & Monitoring
Built-in APM tool + every-3-minute uptime monitoring
Application Performance Monitoring is available to all plans at no extra cost. Identifies slow database queries, PHP execution bottlenecks, and external call latency.
Security & Compliance
SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, GDPR, CCPA, enterprise WAF, DDoS
Full enterprise compliance stack. Kinsta undergoes independent SOC 2 audits and holds ISO 27001 certification — required by many regulated enterprise customers.
